Law firms are becoming more strict with their policies regarding in-office work.
According to AbovetheLaw Davis Polk has notified its associates that they must adhere to the mandatory in-office policy on Tuesdays and Thursdays if they want to receive their bonuses. Sidley Austin has also implemented a similar policy starting in January.
However, Seward & Kissel has taken a different approach by offering a fully remote work environment during certain periods. From July 28 to September 5, as well as during the week of Thanksgiving and the last week of December, the firm will allow its employees to work remotely.
But law firms remain unsure, or at least unsettled when it comes to working in-office or away-from-office with different policies being implemented by different law firms.
Those firms seeking to have their lawyers return to the office have tried a variety of different approaches including providing various attractions like Yoga and special ‘bribes’ to make the office work more attractive, but some are also becoming more hard-nosed over the whole process with the mandatory policy adopted by the likes of Davis Polk.
