New Zealand Law Firm Recruiter Survey

The recruitment prospects for lawyers in New Zealand in 2017 remain strong, the LawFuel Recruitment survey shows.

While there has been some slowdown in property law jobs with the general slowdown in that area, as well as with the reduction in work in Christchurch, the overall strength of the legal jobs market remains strong.

Recruiters surveyed in the report remain confident that many jobs at both a junior and senior level remain available and continue to develop in both the cities and the provincial centres.

While provincial firms have trouble in many cases recruiting for positions, the cost of living in city centres, particularly Auckland, has eased the situation somewhat with quality jobs on offer in cities like Tauranga, New Plymouth, Nelson and elsewhere.

In addition, the situation with succession planning has created another problem for many smaller firms who have not necessarily made appropriate arrangements to ensure their firms continue with younger partners.
